About Brewing Expression
Drawing inspiration from the rich cultural heritage symbolized by coffee within the Hispanic community and its significance to Llanes’ artistic narrative, this exhibition endeavors to initiate a dialogue on human odysseys and the notion of home. Through the unique medium of coffee on paper, meticulously developed by the artist to evoke profound emotional resonance, the exhibition serves as a testament to the intertwined relationship between personal history and cultural identity. Each stroke of coffee-infused pigment reflects a deeply rooted connection to the artist’s upbringing, his motherland, and the evocative aroma of espresso, encapsulating the essence of home.
Featuring a diverse array of coffee on paper paintings alongside complementary poems, the exhibition seeks to explore the notion of cultural heritage through a multi-sensory experience. These paired artworks evoke memories and emotions akin to the comforting fragrance of coffee, serving as a universal tether to the concept of home. The selection of poems and their respective authors is curated with a focus on their contributions to the South Florida community, their dedication to preserving cultural traditions amidst migratory or adaptive processes, and their resonance with the exhibition’s thematic underpinnings.
In a gesture of artistic integration within our diverse societal fabric, invited writers will hand-transcribe their poems using coffee ink, mirroring the process-driven approach inherent in the painting technique. Subsequently, during the exhibition’s opening, these handwritten compositions will be showcased alongside the coffee-infused artworks, accompanied by live poetry readings. The recorded presentation will be prominently displayed within the gallery space, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the harmonious fusion of coffee, art, and cultural narrative.
