The Art of Fashion: A Hands-On Summer Camp Experience
This camp offers a unique opportunity for students inspired by the art of fashion. No experience is required to join this camp. This one week summer program is tailored to suit aspiring designers from beginner to advanced levels. Basics are reviewed for hand and machine sewing. Materials will range from bolt fabric to repurposed clothing in order to emphasize the importance of sustainability. Basic patterns are completed with opportunities to incorporate unique embellishments. The final day of camp ends with students exhibiting their designs in a runway style showcase for friends and family. This camp is proudly sponsored by Goodwill Industries of SWFL Art and Collectors Department.

Angela Hicks is an instructor and professional artist with a passion to teach all mediums of art while integrating science and history. Her body of work ranges from painting landscapes and portraits to one-of-a-kind ceramic teapot sets. Her inspiration comes from years of international travel where she continued her art history and architectural studies after graduating from FGCU, BA Arts & Sciences.
Hicks’ notable expertise in design was ignited by her formative years surrounded by the opulence of her family’s jewelry boutique, nestled alongside a seamstress and bridal atelier. This rarefied environment, replete with exquisite gowns and fine jewelry, cultivated her passion for crafting bold design statements.
Her multifaceted artistic background, rooted in theater and dance, further honed her expertise in sewing and costume design. Her extensive experience in creating bespoke costumes for herself and her dance students developed into a distinctive couture aesthetic, showcased prominently in her newest collection called Armura.
